This website was created for parents and other members of the community who are seeking information regarding topics in special education or processes followed by the district in regard to special education.

The Goals of the Special Education Department: 
  • Identifying and providing interventions for students with disabilities at no cost to the parent/guardian.
  • Serving students in the least restrictive environment with non-disabled peers.
  • Maintaining high expectations for all students leading to independence and potential employment at the end of the instructional program.

§ 300.1 Purposes. The purposes of this part are— (a) To ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living; (b) To ensure that the rights of children with disabilities and their parents are protected; (c) To assist States, localities, educational service agencies, and Federal agencies to provide for the education of all children with disabilities; and (d) To assess and ensure the effectiveness of efforts to educate children with disabilities.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has updated its Special Education Systems Dispute Resolution Handbook.  The handbook is designed to assist parents, school officials, and other interested parties in understanding and working through TEA’s special education dispute resolution system. It provides information on individualized education program (IEP) facilitation, mediation, due process hearings, and state complaints.  The handbook may be found on the TEA website at:
