Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Albert Uresti and State Rep. Tomas Uresti stopped by Schulze Elementary Friday morning to speak to second grade students about their different roles in government.

Together, the brothers delivered an engaging presentation where they shared their long-standing history as public officials serving the people of Bexar County and Texas.

Since the students are currently learning about government officials, Schulze Elementary Principal Victoria Treviño said their visit will help enhance what the kids are learning in the classroom.

“We wanted to bring someone to share their experience with the students,” Treviño said. “So, we are happy they agreed to come as this is the first time that they both visit our school together.”

The children learned about the difference between their careers, property taxes and even tried to guess how much money Albert Uresti’s office collects in a year. The answer: $4 billion!

With the help of a teacher, they also performed a skit to teach children the importance of helping people and being an honest person in life.

The presentation concluded with the brothers offering the kids a few words of encouragement and surprising them with a free ruler, two pencils and a bag of candy.

Thanks to his long history with Harlandale ISD, State Rep. Tomas Uresti is always happy to come back and visit with students and staff.

“I love being here,” Tomas Uresti said. “It gives us a chance to spend time with the students and let them know that public officials are here to help them and their families.”
