The Harlandale ISD Council of PTAs awarded three $800 scholarships to three academically talented seniors during a meeting at Columbia Heights Elementary on May 8.

Administrators, teachers, counselors and family members attended the meeting to cheer on the scholarship recipients: Harlandale HS senior Kollette Zamora, McCollum HS senior Karen Padilla and STEM Early College HS senior Leticia Delgado.

The council’s officers, President Andrea Gonzalez, First Vice President Karen Sullivan, Second Vice President Allison Lopez and Treasurer Gabriel Ibarra, presented each student with a certificate and congratulated them on furthering their higher education. They all plan to pursue their dream career.

Kollette will be attending UT Austin and hopes to become a social worker. Karen will enter San Antonio College’s pre-nursing program to become a pediatric nurse. Leticia will be obtaining her associate’s degree in science with a concentration in biology from PAC this year and will continue her studies at UTSA to become a physical therapist.

The council organizes several fundraisers throughout the school year to be able to support the students in the Harlandale community.

“If the Council of PTAS can make a difference in one student’s life, then we have accomplished our goal,” Sullivan said. “It’s about our students, striving to become the best. No one can stop our students from achieving, dreaming and becoming the best in the future. Seeing students smile, laugh and cry when they receive their scholarships, that’s when I know we are helping make a difference.”

Congratulations, students!
