Superintendent's Message

It’s holiday time in Harlandale ISD and Santa’s schedule is booked with visits to many of our campuses.  Choirs and bands are ushering in the festivities. Students and staff have been helping Santa by collecting toys, food and clothing for community projects.

Everyone is preparing for winter break. Students will be released early on Dec. 20. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m., middle schools will let out at 1 p.m., and high school students will be released at 1:30 p.m. Campuses and administration offices will be closed for winter break from Dec. 21 through Jan. 3. Friday, Jan. 4 is a student holiday and staff work day. Students will return to class on Jan. 7.

Looking back on the accomplishments of this school year so far, employees, students, parents and community members have combined their energy, talent and passion to make our district successful. In addition to our daily emphasis on classroom instruction, we provide support to students with STEM-based after school and literacy programs. The Board of Trustees and administrative staff are invested in the Lone Star Governance program. We will continue attending training sessions as we maintain focus on improving student outcomes while leading with integrity.

Winter officially begins on Dec. 21, and plans are in place if it should be necessary to cancel classes due to inclement weather. The district officials notify local radio and television stations, make automated phone calls and update the district website. Tune in to local radio or television stations, or log on to, for information about emergency school closings.

As you schedule your 2019 calendar, these are some upcoming events: Spring Break will be March 11-15. STEM Early College High School and Frank Tejeda Academy graduation ceremonies will be held on June 10. McCollum High School graduation will be on June 11, and Harlandale High School ceremony will be on June 12.

We send holiday greetings and Happy New Year wishes on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire Harlandale ISD family.  Feliz Navidad y Próspero Año Nuevo.
