Superintendent's Message

Elementary students will be released at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28.

We hope you will join Harlandale ISD at the 34th annual National Night Out at the Harlandale Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free event is open to the public.  There will be free food, drinks, games, giveaways and many of our students will provide entertainment. Information about safety, wellness, social services and community groups will also be available.

Harlandale High School recently unveiled its new Cosmetology Lab. The lab features up-to-date equipment similar to that used in the cosmetology industry such as pedicure chairs, shampoo bowls, chairs with new cabinetry for towel and shampoo storage, new lighting in lab area, new hair styling stations, portable hair dryers, manicure tables and a new hydraulic facial chair. In the classroom, students have new desks, lockers and storage area for their cosmetology kits. Students have the opportunity to earn a Cosmetology Operator License upon completion of the two-year program at Harlandale High School.

Student safety is important for all of us.  We caution our students who walk to and from school to be aware of their surroundings. If approached by strangers, they should avoid conversation and report the incident immediately to an adult or call 911. We ask drivers to reduce speed and not use cell phones for calling or texting when traveling in school zones. When school buses stop and have activated their alternating red flashing lights or stop sign, Texas state law requires drivers to stop.

For the safety of those within our schools, all visitors must show an ID, then report to the school’s front office to sign in and be issued a visitor badge. Our district faculty and staff endeavor to provide safe and supportive school climates where all students understand good behavioral expectations.  The district provides an anonymous phone line to report neighborhood information including bullying, vandalism or any citizen and student concern.  The phone number is 989-SAFE (7233).  We extend our appreciation to the citizens of the Harlandale community for helping us keep our children safe.
