Superintendent's Message

May 17, 2018

In 1971, Harlandale ISD became the first district in San Antonio to erect a memorial in honor of former students who paid the ultimate sacrifice. As we carry on that tradition, we will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 28 at 9 a.m. at the monument in front of the Harlandale Memorial Stadium.  That day is a student holiday and administration offices will be closed.

On the final day of school, June 7, students will be released early from school. Elementary schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., middle schools will release at 1 p.m. and high schools will let out at 1:30 p.m.

Congratulations to Harlandale STEM Early College High School for being named an Honor Roll school presented by the Educational Results Partnership and the Institute for Productivity in Education. Recognized for its high achievement and student success, the teachers and administrators are committed to reaching higher levels of academic achievement and continuous improvement.

STEM Early College HS is now accepting applications from incoming freshmen (current eighth grade students) interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students have the opportunity to earn up to 60 hours of college credit and an associate's degree before they even graduate high school.

Vestal Elementary and the Carroll Bell PTA are hosting “Buy a Brick” fundraisers through June 1 to help pay for a mural in their new libraries and to purchase additional items for their teachers and students. The bricks will be placed on a walkway at their newly built school. Visit www.Harlandale.net under announcements for more information.

A graduation ceremony for students from the Frank Tejeda Academy will be held at the Trinity Laurie Auditorium on June 1 at 2 p.m. Later that day, the Harlandale STEM Early College High School will conduct a graduation ceremony at the Laurie Auditorium at 7 p.m. The Freeman Coliseum will be the site of Harlandale High School’s graduation on June 12 and McCollum High School’s graduation on June 13.

Throughout this school year there have been many opportunities for our students to share their educational experience and display their talents at various events. I would like to thank our parents and community members for attending these events and continuously supporting the Harlandale ISD.
