Many robotics teams from all over the San Antonio area traveled near and far to Harlandale ISD for the South San Antonio FTC Metro League competition on Jan. 27.
This four four competition, which began on Dec. 2, 2017, finalized with a championship event at McCollum HS on Jan. 27.
More than 32 teams registered for the league competition, including every HISD middle school and high school campus.
Two teams from STEM Early College High School will advance to the area regional competition in Austin, Texas.
Harlandale MS, McCollum HS and Kingsborough MS earned advancement to a “Wild Card” qualifier, which means these teams can compete for another opportunity to advance to the area regional. All three teams will compete again here in San Antonio next month.
The Harlandale ISD GT STEM Department made the competition possible with the help of GT/STEM Coordinator Anthony Khosravi, and GT Specialists Charles Hernandez and Sonia Cuellar, along with many volunteers.
“Robotics competitions are challenging, and students are expected to address those challenges using 21st Century skills like communication, critical thinking, creativity, and even determination when their solution didn’t prove to work,” Khosravi said. “This competition is designed to allow our students the opportunity to use a growth mindset of understanding and keep trying, keep designing, keep programming and never stop improving.”
Congratulations to all the teams advancing to area regional and a huge thank you to all coaches for helping our students continue their love for robotics!
